On our most recent visit to our Colombian partners, we were asked to help judge the Best of El Carmen competition, allowing the individual producers of this wet-mill the chance to have their own singularly produced coffees judged and scored by the roasting partners of who usually consume their coffees. We were incredibly honoured to take the winning lot from the competition: a beautifully complex and elegant Castillo varietal from Henry Claros’ farm, San Francisco. Competitions like this not only increase the excitement between the local farmers, but also helps to allow those who can produce remarkable cup profiles the opportunity to sell their coffees as standalone microlots.
